Champion Zhao Quinjian at ASKF

Last week, one of Master Feng's fellow Kung Fu brothers and acclaimed Wushu Champion, Zhao Quinjian, visited American Shaolin Kung Fu to teach a seminar to our students as well as prepare them for our upcoming competition in the Legends of Kung Fu (blog to follow).

The seminar went very well and the students learned a lot.  Master Feng wants to thank everyone for their hospitality and respect they showed towards our guest.  A special thank you goes out to the Kung Fu Girls that gave Zhao Quinjian a very thoughtful Texas gift basket.  This showed Zhao just how friendly and courteous our students can be.

Below are some pictures from the seminar.

Good evening all!

I just wanted to let everyone know that our school will be participating in the Legends of Kung Fu Tournament on Friday July 27th - Sunday July 29th.  We will be participating in various categories as well as a Master's Demo.  As such, the school will be closed during these days.
This will be another exciting opportunity for the students and parents to show their support for their school and fellow classmates.  We look forward to seeing everyone there and encourage everyone to bring the focus and training to the competition.
Good luck, everyone!

Master Feng

Attention Parents & Students,

It is with great pleasure that I announce the arrival of one of my Kung Fu/Wushu brothers, Zhao Qingjian to American Shaolin Kung Fu.
Zhao Qingjian is a Wushu gold medalist winner at the 2009 11th National Games of the People’s Republic of China.  Coming from a family line of martial artists, Zhao began his training in Shaolin under one of his father’s younger Kung Fu brothers.  It was then at the age of 12 where he won his first title of All-Around Champion at the Dongping County Tournament.  After winning a few more tournaments, at 15 he began his rigorous training at the Shaolin Temple taking on the name, Shi Xingjian.

His training at the Shaolin Temple lasted 3 years learning 18 weapons, specializing in dao (staff, 3-section staff and the 9-section whip).  He became part of the Shaolin Temple troupe where he toured in nearly two dozen countries along with Master Feng.

After touring with the Shaolin Temple demo team, he returned to China where he attended college.  During his sophomore year in college, Zhao Qingjian caught the attention of Wu Bin, the head coach of the illustrious Beijing Wushu Team and tutor to international superstar, Jet Li.  Wu Bin immediately drafted Zhao to the Beijing Wushu Team.  Under Wu Bin’s direction, Zhao won an impressive string of medals in both national and international competitions.  The highlight of his career, however, was his participation and achievement of gold medal in Men’s Daoshu & Gunshu combined at the 2008 Beijing Wushu Tournament.

Zhao Qingjian will be at American Shaolin Kung Fu on Thursday July 26th observing and mentoring our students in preparation of this weekend's Legends of Kung Fu Tournament.  Both First and Second Master Feng kindly ask that you show proper respect and hospitality to our guest during his stay at our school.  Please wear your proper uniform and come focused and prepared for your training.  This will definitely be an exciting day for all.

Clements International Performance

Greetings again,

I ask for your forgiveness in posting very late but these stories do deserve their time on this blog!

On April 5th our school was kindly invited to perform at Clements High School for their annual Clements International Festival.  The festival is a non-profit event that showcases different cultures to its visitors.  They also held an auction where 100% of the funds raised went to local charities.  American Shaolin Kung Fu made a donation towards their auction in hopes of helping this event raise funds!

Here are some photos from the performance for you to enjoy.

Take care,

Master Feng

Kung Fu Support for Paola

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to post about an event that took place where several of our students came together to show their support for another student.

Paola took place in a triathlon in Kemah this past weekend.  She took part in the 500 meter swim, 27 mile bike, and 6 mile run.  Here are some photos from this weekend's event.

I want to express how proud I am that my students come together to show their support for one another.  It makes me honored to be your Shifu.  If anyone else has any events they'd like to share, please email them to americanshaolinkungfu@yahoo.com as I'd love to post them up here.

Congratulations, Paola, we are all so very proud of you.

All the best,

Master Feng
